CONGRESSMAN JOSH HARDER FEATURED AT MVCAN FALL KICK-OFF MEETING!

SUNDAY SEPT. 15, 5PM

At our MVCAN Fall Kick-Off Meeting, we will hear from one of our favorite members of Congress, Josh Harder, from CD-10 (Modesto).

MVCAN Monthly Meeting
Sunday, Sept. 15, 5 - 6:30PM
Mill Valley Golf Course Clubhouse (Note: different venue)
280 Buena Vista Ave, Mill Valley

Come hear our guest speaker, Congressman Josh Harder.

Team MVCAN, DEMOCRACY ACTION MARIN and many other local groups worked hard the entire year in 2018 to help flip this district and elect this impressive young U.S. Representative, turning out >200 volunteers to call and canvass for Josh Harder. He’ll fill us in on his first year in Congress, the legislation he’s introduced and helped pass, as well as news from his district on how we can help defend his seat in 2020.

The meeting will also provide a quick overview of many upcoming MVCAN activities and plans that we are excited about and want to share with our members.

PHONE BANK in SAUSALITO - Saturday Sep 7, 2 - 4pm

Continuing all Saturdays except Labor Day

The Sausalito phone bank has had 25-30 phone/text bankers every Saturday, June through August. This is a great sign -- this level of participation in the middle of the summer, more than a year away from the 2020 election. Thanks to Susan Bolle and her team of amazing volunteers for their dedication. We’re fired-up and ready to go!

Note that the Sat. Aug 24 phone bank is now full.

THERE WILL BE NO PHONE BANK AUG. 31 LABOR DAY WEEKEND.

Please join us for the phone bank on Sept. 7!

Phone Bank Sausalito
Sat. Sept 7, 2pm - 4pm
80 Liberty Ship Way, Suite 20

We’ll be talking to voters in North Carolina-09 to Get Out The Vote for Dan McCready in the September 10 Special Congressional Election. (Early Voting starts Aug. 21.) Winning this R-leaning seat will send a strong message to Republicans about their fate in 2020 and might cause even more Republicans to retire.

Our partnership with Sister District Marin continues as we call voters in Virginia. The entire VA House & Senate are up for election November 5, 2019 -- and we have the opportunity to take the majority and gain a powerful trifecta (both state houses + governor) to ensure we get fair redistricting in 2021, protect a woman’s right to choose and enact sweeping gun safety legislation already proposed by Governor Northam.

Please bring your charged cell phone AND a laptop, iPad or tablet along with your earbuds with a mic. And don’t forget your water bottle.

Remember, our experienced coaches are always on hand to guide you from start to finish.

For more info on subsequent phone banks, contact Marti Cermak at marti.cermak@gmail.com.

GET READY TO MAKE CALLS TO SUPPORT PROGRESSIVE
CALIFORNIA STATE BILLS - Sept 3 - 6

Get ready to participate in MVCAN’s crucially important “Call Week” from Sept 3 - Sept 6. During our first Call Week last May we mobilized with excellent impact as we lobbied our own State Senator Mike Maguire and State Assemblyman Marc Levine to vote for bills supported by MVCAN.

MVCAN will be sending a special instructional email over Labor Day weekend with details about which bills we will be supporting with call scripts, etc. (The exact call program will be worked out after the bills that make it to the floor have been determined on August 30.) So stay tuned for your marching orders!

The MVCAN advocacy team, along with statewide partners, are currently determining the most strategic bills to call about given the legislative positions of our particular state representatives. Between Monday Sept. 3 and Thursday Sept 6, we will be promoting a priority bill each day.

We will be addressing bills on critical issues such as expanding Medi-Cal to undocumented residents and the banning of single-use plastics.

PLAN NOW - TRAVEL TO ARIZONA TO CANVASS VOTERS -

Oct 19 - 27

Join with your fellow MVCAN members at the Arizona Democratic Party Headquarters in Phoenix on Saturday Oct. 19 (time TBD) to canvass door-to-door and register voters. Training will be provided.

You are welcome to come for the weekend or stay the week. The AZ weather is milder in Oct. with daytime temperatures in the 70's/80’s.

We’ll be joining up with one of our partner groups from the East Bay, Commit To Flip Blue. This will be the first of many trips to AZ leading up to November 2020!

Canvass in Arizona

Oct 19 - 27 (time TBD)

Democratic Headquarters, Phoenix

For more info, email marti.cermak@gmail.com.

AZ is our closest flippable neighbor: changing demographics are shifting it away from its traditional status as a Republican stronghold and Trump’s favorability ratings are sinking lower and lower. Our impressive Democratic Senatorial candidate, Captain Mark Kelly, is an astronaut, veteran and the husband of former Representative Gabby Giffords.

Last November, we helped win the first Democratic Senate seat in AZ in 30 years for Kyrsten Sinema. Senator Sinema’s 2018 opponent, Martha McSally, was appointed by the governor to fill McCain’s Senate seat, but she is closely aligned with Trump and is now tied with Kelly in the polls.

Join in and help make a difference in Arizona!
